Borrow only what you need for your educational expenses.


Before You Borrow

Before requesting a student loan, consider other financial aid such as:

  • California College Promise Grant
  • Federal Pell Grant
  • Federal Work-Study
  • Cal Grant
  • Student Success Completion Grant
  • Scholarships

Who Is Eligible?

To be considered for a Federal Direct Loan, you generally must:

  • Complete a FAFSA.
  • Be enrolled in an eligible associate degree or certificate program.
  • Be enrolled in at least 6 program-applicable units.
  • Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
  • Complete all required financial aid documents.
  • Meet all federal student aid eligibility requirements.

Woodland Community College Loan Policy

Student loans are awarded only after a student submits a loan request.
Loans are not automatically offered as part of your financial aid package.

Only coursework that applies toward your declared educational program may be considered when determining loan eligibility.


Federal Loan Updates

Federal student loan regulations continue to change under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBB) and guidance from the U.S. Department of Education.

Changes may affect:

  • Loan programs
  • Borrowing limits
  • Interest benefits
  • Repayment options
  • Borrower requirements

Woodland Community College follows current federal regulations when determining student loan eligibility.


Borrow Responsibly

Borrow only what you need for educational expenses such as:

  • Tuition and fees
  • Books and supplies
  • Transportation
  • Housing and food while attending school

Remember: Student loans must be repaid with any applicable interest.


Your Responsibilities

  • Repay your loan according to your loan agreement.
  • Complete Entrance Counseling if required.
  • Sign the Master Promissory Note if required.
  • Complete Exit Counseling when required.
  • Keep your loan servicer informed of changes to your contact information.

How to Request a Loan

  1. Complete your FAFSA.
  2. Submit all requested financial aid documents via Self Service.
  3. Request and submit a Direct Loan application packet via contacting the WCC Financial Aid Office.
  4. Complete any required federal loan requirements.
  5. The Financial Aid Office will review and communicate your eligibility.
