MESA Eligibility

Educationally disadvantaged students are eligible for the MESA program. Educational disadvantages may include factors such as economic status, educational environment, financial hardship, family and home circumstances. Also, you must be a first-generation college student. This means your parents did not graduate from a university with a bachelor’s degree. If you have any questions stop by the MESA Center, located in the 800 Building Room 815. To apply, click on the “Application” tab located on the right side of our website.

MESA Program Requirements:

  • Majoring in a math, engineering or science-based field
  • Intend to transfer to a four-year college/university
  • Maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA and enrolled in 12 units or more
  • Not have a Bachelor’s degree
  • Parents with no Bachelor’s degree
  • Enrolled or eligible for Math 50 or higher
  • Current Board of Governor’s Waiver (BOGW)
  • Qualify for educational support services (educational and financial need criteria defined by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office)

Additionally, in order to stay in good standing, continuing MESA members are expected to:

  • Create and maintain a three-year educational plan for transfer. We can help set up an appointment with the MESA Counselor to establish a Student Educational Plan.
  • Complete a semester Progress Report.
  • Actively participate in MESA activities throughout the semester, including attending events such as meetings, academic workshops, participate in mentor study groups, community volunteer opportunities, and field trips.

Non-MESA Program member (ASEM):

Even if you don’t meet all requirements, you can still be an active member of the MESA Program! If you would like to stay involved with STEM major students, you can participate in our services as an ASEM member.
