The History
In 2006 the Yuba Community College District (YCCD) conducted a community wide survey to determine the highest priorities of district residents for higher education services in YCCD’s service area. The study determined that 83.8% of district citizens supported developing facilities that would provide college coursework to students “closer to home”. The district also found that 53.6% of respondents supported building a new classroom facility in Colusa County. Based on the community’s response the YCCD Board of Trustees placed Measure “J” on the ballot. Measure J is a $190 million facilities bond to renovate existing facilities and build new ones for the District. The Measure was approved by voters in November of 2006. In keeping with the overwhelming support the District constructed the new Colusa County Outreach Facility in Williams for the benefit of the Colusa County community and the region.
The Facility
The Colusa County Outreach Facility became a reality after several years of planning and construction. It opened in January of 2011. The facility is a modern 9,500 square foot facility on 5 acres with 4 classrooms that accommodate 120 students at any one time. The entire facility is equipped with wireless internet for student use. The facility houses student services that include registration support, financial aid, matriculation services, counseling, and TRIO Programs (Upward Bound and Student Support Services).
Educational programming is also major component of the new Colusa County Outreach Facility. At the Colusa County Outreach Facility students have the option of taking core classes to transfer to CSU/UC, Career Technical Education (Administration of Justice, Early Childhood Education, Emergency Medical Technician, Ag Related Classes, etc.) and Basic Skills and English as a Second Language courses. Woodland Community College will continue to work with the college community and Colusa County community to expand and offer courses that reflect the needs of our students. The County of Colusa is part of Woodland Community College’s service area.
