University & Transfer Information

Graduation & Certificate Review

Counselors can review your progress toward earning a degree or certificate, discuss remaining requirements, and help ensure you’re prepared to apply for graduation. If you need assistance with submitting your graduation petition, make an appointment before the deadline for your semester.

Spring semester petitions are due by April 15
Summer semester petitions are due by July 1
Fall semester petitions are due by November 15

Student Success Courses

The Counseling office provides a variety of courses aimed at promoting student success. These courses are designed to assist students with the transition to college life by setting realistic educational, career, and personal goals, and by strengthening essential academic and career readiness skills including time management, effective study strategies, goal setting, and career exploration.

COUNS 10 – College Success (3 units): Learn strategies for academic achievement, personal growth, and navigating college successfully.

COUNS 25 – Career Planning and Development (3 units): Explore career options, identify your strengths and interests, and develop a plan to achieve your educational and career goals.

Note during peak registration times: Our Counselors also hold Drop-In hours to better assist students. This means scheduled appointments may be limited. Please check out the Drop-In Hours and information below.

Drop-In Counseling Times & Instructions

Call the Woodland Campus counseling office at (530) 661-5703 to be added to the Drop-In list. Drop-ins close once we reach capacity.

Drop-in counseling can help you:

plan or adjust your schedule
change your major
complete petitions or readmission forms
get general information about programs, classes, services, and transfer options

Drop-In Session details:

Available at the Woodland campus or online via Zoom
Drop-in Sessions last 15–20 minutes
Drop-ins are offered on a first-come, first-served basis
Sessions are not guaranteed and subject to change.
The front desk opens at 8:00 AM and counselors begin seeing drop-ins as early as 8:30 AM

Note: If you plan to review your academic warning status, or you have transcripts from a different college that need to be reviewed, please call the Counseling Department as these appointments require more time.

It’s highly recommended that every student review their education plan with a counselor as early as possible before or during your first semester. With the assistance of a counselor, you will select the best courses for your goals at Woodland Community College. Counselors will make recommendations and develop an educational plan to fit your academic goals.

Exempt students may not need to meet with a counselor depending on educational background or plans for study. If you meet two or more of the following criteria, you are not required to meet with a counselor:

I have previously completed an associate or higher degree (specify college, degree, month/year awarded and include copy of degree or transcripts)
I am concurrently enrolled in high school
I will be enrolling in performance classes only (e.g. music, drama, physical education activity classes)
I am currently enrolled at a four-year college or university (transcripts required)
I am enrolling in fewer than six units
I am not planning to earn a degree or certificate
I am enrolling in job-skill upgrade, self-improvement, or general interest courses
I am an English language learner taking ESOL classes.
I am enrolling in classes for which I have previous training

Every certificate and degree program has a Program Map that lists the required and recommended sequence of courses you can take. We’ve designed these Program Maps to help you find the most efficient path to completing your goals.

These maps do not replace your actual Student Education Plan, so be sure to talk with a Woodland Community College counselor to pick the right courses for your academic goals.

To update your major in the college’s student records, you’ll need to submit a Change of Student Data request form to Admissions & Records.

Here’s how:

Complete Section 3 of the form
Enter your new major under “New Program”
If you’re removing an old major, list it under “Programs to Remove”
- Not sure what your current major is? You can write: “Please remove current program”

This step updates your major in the college’s system for transcripts, enrollment reporting, and graduation tracking.

The California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) is a single, streamlined general education pattern designed to make transferring from a California Community College to either a California State University (CSU) or a University of California (UC) campus much easier and more efficient.

Starting with students who began classes in the 2025–2026 academic year or later, Cal-GETC establishes a unified 34-unit lower-division general education pathway. Successfully completing the full Cal-GETC pattern satisfies your lower-division general education requirements at your target university, ensuring you won’t need to take additional freshman or sophomore-level general education courses after you transfer.

Note: To receive credit toward Cal-GETC, all courses within the pattern must be completed with a grade of “C” or better (or a “Pass/Credit” designation if institutional policy defines it as equivalent to a “C” or higher).
