Meet with a counselor
It really helps to talk through your education goals with someone who can guide you to finish college as efficiently as possible. Meet with a counselor before the semester starts to make sure your education plan is perfect for you.
Counseling FAQs
It’s highly recommended that every student review their education plan with a counselor as early as possible before or during your first semester.
With the assistance of a counselor, you will select the best courses for your goals at WCC. Counselors will make recommendations and develop an educational plan to fit your academic goals.
You are not required to meet with a counselor if you meet two or more of the following criteria:
- I have completed an associate or higher degree (specify college, degree, month/year awarded and include copy of degree or transcripts)
- I am concurrently enrolled in high school
- I will be enrolling in performance classes only (e.g. music, drama, physical education activity classes)
- I am currently enrolled at a four-year college or university (transcripts required)
- I am enrolling in fewer than six units
- I am not planning to earn a degree or certificate
- I am enrolling in job-skill upgrade, self-improvement, or general interest courses
- I am an English language learner taking ESOL classes.
- I am enrolling in classes for which I have previous training
In order to be granted exemption, you will need to complete and submit a request to Admissions & Records.
Requests must be sent via email to WCCadmissionsinfo@yccd.edu with all of the following information:
- Indicate the corresponding numbers of the two or more exemption criteria that apply to you,
- Your Student ID number
- Scanned copies of any required verification documents.
All email requests for an exemption must be sent from your student YCCD email account in order to verify your identity. Please make sure to include all necessary information and verification to avoid delay.
New students are not able to book a counseling appointment through our online scheduling system. All new and prospective students should complete their application before booking an appointment.
Once you have received your Student ID and are able to log in, you’ll now be able to schedule a counseling appointment.

Registration FAQs
Your Priority Registration date is assigned based on your student status and you won’t be able to register before your specified date. Your priority is determined by things like the number of units you have already completed, if you’re enrolled in special programs, and/or registration eligibility.
Most new students (attending college for the first time) will be able to register on Day 6 after registration officially starts.
Log in to Self-Service and check your notifications for your “Priority Registration Date” as shown in the screenshot below.

Priority Registration notification in Self-Service
When you register for a class and all the seats are filled, Self-Service will place you on the waitlist, or if you register in person you will be asked if you want to be placed on the waitlist.
Being on the waitlist means that all seats in the class are taken, and you will be waiting for a seat to open up.
Then as students drop themselves out of the class, or are dropped for non-payment, seats will become available up until the Thursday before classes begin for the term.
The college will enroll students from the waitlist into the class automatically. As students are enrolled, students remaining on the waitlist will move up closer to the top of the list.
Once you are moved into the class from the waitlist, you will be notified that you are enrolled and have 10 calendar days to pay your fees.
Pay your fees right away within 10 calendar days, so you don’t get dropped from the class and lose your place on the waitlist.
If you do not want the class, you can go to Self-Service and drop it from your schedule; however, please keep in mind that you cannot be placed back in your previous position on the waitlist.
