It’s highly recommended that every student review their education plan with a counselor as early as possible before or during your first semester.

With the assistance of a counselor, you will select the best courses for your goals at WCC. Counselors will make recommendations and develop an educational plan to fit your academic goals.

You are not required to meet with a counselor if you meet two or more of the following criteria:

• I have completed an associate or higher degree (specify college, degree, month/year awarded and include copy of degree or transcripts)
• I am concurrently enrolled in high school
• I will be enrolling in performance classes only (e.g. music, drama, physical education activity classes)
• I am currently enrolled at a four-year college or university (transcripts required)
• I am enrolling in fewer than six units
• I am not planning to earn a degree or certificate
• I am enrolling in job-skill upgrade, self-improvement, or general interest courses
• I am an English language learner taking ESOL classes.
• I am enrolling in classes for which I have previous training

In order to be granted exemption, you will need to complete and submit a request to Admissions & Records.

Requests must be sent via email to WCCadmissionsinfo@yccd.edu with all of the following information:

1. Indicate the corresponding numbers of the two or more exemption criteria that apply to you,
2. Your Student ID number
3. Scanned copies of any required verification documents.

All email requests for an exemption must be sent from your student YCCD email account in order to verify your identity.  Please make sure to include all necessary information and verification to avoid delay.
