Frequently Asked Questions

Question

Why do you need information from my parents or family?

Answer

Parents are considered to have the primary responsibility for assisting the dependent student in meeting the cost of education. Financial aid is available along with parental contributions to meet the student’s education-related expenses.

Aid for independent students is available based on student contribution and the student’s education-related expenses.

Starting with the 2024-25 application year, students and other contributors will be required to create a studentaid.gov account to complete the FAFSA. Contributors to a student’s FAFSA may include a spouse for independent students or parent(s), step-parent(s), or adoptive parent(s) for dependent students. A studentaid.gov account can be created online at https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account. An alternative application process is available if students are unable to complete the FAFSA online, please inquire at the Financial Aid Office.
