About the Statistics Discipline

The Mathematics and Statistics Department at Woodland Community College offers a wide variety of mathematics and statistics courses, ranging from the developmental and remedial level to the first two years of college or university. The courses support the development of basic skills mathematics, as well as support a variety of certificate programs and associate’s degrees. The courses also prepare students to transfer to a college or university to major in mathematics, engineering, the physical or life sciences, business, liberal studies, and a host of other majors.

STAT100 Algebra Support for Introduction to Statistics

1 unit

A review of prerequisite skills, competencies, and concepts needed in statistics. Intended for students who are concurrently enrolled in STAT C1000, Introduction to Statistics, at Woodland Community College. Topics include concepts from elementary and intermediate algebra needed to understand the basics of college-level statistics. Concepts are taught in the context of statistical analysis.

STATC1000 Introduction To Statistics

4 units

This course is an introduction to statistical thinking and processes, including methods and concepts for discovery and decision-making using data. Topics include descriptive statistics; probability and sampling distributions; statistical inference; correlation and linear regression; analysis of variance, chi-squared, and t-tests; and application of technology for statistical analysis including the interpretation of the relevance of the statistical findings. Students apply methods and processes to applications using data from a broad range of disciplines.
