Frequently Asked Questions
Question
Answer
CalWORKs is California’s welfare-to-work program, and all Woodland Community College CalWORKs students are enrolled in courses of study while seeking hands-on experience in the workplace. Employers benefit by gaining access to motivated students who are eager to build skills and achieve long-term career goals.
The CalWORKs program can help your business:
- Find quality employees who are enhancing their skills through education and work experience
- Post jobs and receive referrals for student candidates matched to your needs
- Access up-to-date labor market and occupation information
- Take advantage of tax and hiring incentives, at no cost to your company
Training incentives: Employers may receive reimbursement of up to 75% of wages paid during an agreed training period for eligible new hires. CalWORKs will send student applicants, help match them to your needs, and formalize the arrangement before work begins. Reimbursement schedules (weekly, bimonthly, or monthly) can be arranged to fit your business.
Tax incentives: Employers who hire CalWORKs participants may qualify for additional tax incentives. Woodland Community College CalWORKs staff can provide details and eligibility guidance.
