Your instructors are responsible for assigning grades based on your performance in each course. Letter grades like A, B, C, D, and F each come with grade points that affect your GPA—A is the highest, and F means you didn’t pass.

Here’s a quick breakdown:

• A = 4 points — Excellent
• B = 3 points — Good
• C = 2 points — Satisfactory
• D = 1 point — Passing, but less than satisfactory
• F = 0 points — Failing

There are also other marks that don’t count toward your GPA:

• P = Pass (you earned a C or better)
• NP = No Pass (you earned a D or F)
• W = Withdrawal (you dropped the class after the refund deadline)
• I = Incomplete (you still need to finish part of the course)
• IP = In Progress (used for classes that span more than one term)
• In Progress = Report Delayed

Since Fall 2009, Woodland Community College uses P/NP instead of the old CR (Credit) / NC (No Credit) system—but any CR/NC grades from before then still appear on transcripts.
