How to Transfer to a California State University (CSU)

The CSU system offers 23 campuses across California, with programs designed to prepare students for careers, graduate school, and leadership in their communities. If you’re planning to transfer, here’s how to stay on track with deadlines, requirements, and campus connections.

How to Apply to CSU

All CSU campuses use the CSU Apply portal. Be sure to gather your transcripts, major prep details, and test scores (if applicable) before starting your application.

Application Deadlines

  • Fall 2025: October 1 – December 2, 2024
  • Spring 2026: August 1 – 31, 2025
 

Application Workshops and Assistance

WCC counselors offer application review appointments and CSU campuses host workshops in August, October, and November. Use the CSU Application Guide and videos to prepare, and have a counselor review your application before submitting if you’re uncertain about any part.

Transfer Admissions Information

General Transfer Requirements

To be eligible for upper-division (junior-level) transfer, you must have:

  • 60 CSU-transferable semester units with a minimum 2.0 GPA
  • 30 units of general education with grades of C- or better, including the “Golden Four”:
    • Oral Communication (CSU GE A1)
    • Written Communication (CSU GE A2)
    • Critical Thinking (CSU GE A3)
    • Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning (CSU GE B4)

How to Strengthen Your Application

  • Complete the full CSU GE-Breadth or IGETC pattern (see ASSIST.org)
  • Work with a counselor to ensure you are completing major preparation courses
  • Apply during the priority filing period (Oct. 1–Nov. 30 for fall, Aug. 1–31 for spring)
