About the Economics Discipline
Economics is the study of how the individual or society allocates scarce resources to satisfy unlimited wants. The Associate in Arts in Economics for Transfer is designed to prepare students for a seamless transfer into the CSU system to complete a baccalaureate degree in Economics or similar major. For economics majors with the goal of applying to CSU as well as UC, there's a lot of overlap in coursework; students who are applying to UC should opt to take both MATH C2210 and MATH C2220. Students completing a bachelor’s or more advanced degree in Economics may find employment as market researchers, educators, budget analysts, statisticians, economists, or government or banking employees.
“Economics is a study of man[kind] in the ordinary business of life.” —Alfred Marshall, Principles of Economics (1890)
