CalWORKs On-the-Job Training Program for Employers
CalWORKs stands for California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids. This program is part of California’s plan to implement the Federal TANF program that focuses on fostering economic self-sufficiency and a “work-first” philosophy.
CalWORKs students recognize the need to gain experience and education to care for their families and to further their career. Consequently, CalWORKs students are enrolled in a course of study at Woodland Community College. Here they are aware of the need to gain hands-on experience to augment their education. For CalWORKs students, the chance to combine paid work experience with their learning experience is an invaluable opportunity.
CalWORKs On-the-Job Training Program
The Woodland Community College (WCC) CalWORKs On-the-Job Training
(OJT) Program is designed to give employers an opportunity to expand services without excessive capital outlay. The program can help businesses find quality employees who are committed to enhancing their skills through both education and practical experience. The program also offers employers a full array of job placement services such as job postings, up-to-date information about the labor market and emerging occupations, and tax or hiring incentives, all at no cost to the company.
CalWORKs On-the-Job Training Program Incentives
The WCC CalWORKs OJT Program will provide an employer with a reimbursement of up to 75% of the wages for qualified CalWORKs students who are hired on as an employee. Based on the company’s employment needs, the WCC CalWORKs Employment Services Specialist will send qualified students for interviews. If a CalWORKs student is then chosen, an agreement will be signed between the college and the business activating the student’s employment.
CalWORKs On-the-Job Training Program Tax Incentives
In addition to reimbursement of wages, a business that hires a CalWORKs student may be eligible for tax incentives. The WCC CalWORKs Program can provide your business with more information on eligibility.
