Welding Technologies Certificate

Provides you with the safety instructions, skills and abilities to obtain entry level positions in the many fields that require welding as part of their duties. You will learn how to weld in all positions (flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead), in ARC, MIG and TIG welding.

Only 4 classes to earn your first certificate:

  • Introduction To Arc Welding (SMAW)
  • Oxy-Acetylene Welding
  • GMAW/GTAW Production Welding
  • Structure Design and Fabrication

Advanced Welding Technologies Certificate

The Advanced Certificate teaches you everything you need to obtain the American Welding Society Structural Steel certification (D1.1). You'll be able to obtain certified level positions in the many fields that require a certified welder. You can certify in ARC, MIG, TIG, and dual shield MIG welding.

Only 3 more classes for the advanced certificate:

WELD-54 Intro to Gas Metal Arc Welding and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (4 Credits)

Mon & Tues 4:30–8:20 PM — Lake County Campus

An introduction to the principles of gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), setup/use of GMAW & GTAW equipment, and safe use of tools and equipment. Provides instruction in welding carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum weld joints in various positions.

Which course should I start with?

Most students will start with WELD 51 or 54, but if you have prior trade experience, you might be able to enroll in other intermediate courses.

WELD-51 Introduction to Arc Welding SMAW (2 Credits)

This course is designed to advance beginning arc welding skills with an emphasis on SMAW. Power sources, electrode identification, weldability of metals, joint design and oxyacetylene cutting are covered. Activities include learning to weld stringer and weave bead, butt and fillet welds in the flat, horizontal vertical and overhead positions.
